Replanting trees after earlier agricultural clearing

In Australia, in the 19th and 20th centuries, European settlers cleared much native forest which was seen as a hindrance to grazing and agricultural expansion. Today, good land management aims to establish commercial plantations often on less fertile steep or rocky ground less suited to agriculture, with native forest protected especially along watercourses.
