Too much clearing, not enough shelter

Until recently, many Australian farmers removed all native vegetation to establish pasture for sheep and cattle. The result often meant the farmers as well as their crops and livestock were exposed to the extreme weather conditions in summer and winter, with reduced productivity and erosion as major negative outcomes. Here, only a single exotic tree provides a little shelter to the farmhouse.
